Style 32 was formed in early 1981 by Patrick O'Mahoney, Monk Topping, and Francois Duclos in Washington, DC. The name Style 32 was suggested by Patrick after seeing De Stijl, Visions of Utopia: 1917-1931 at the Hirshhorn Museum. For more info on De Stijl follow link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Stijl

Patrick had learned that, "Something which is truly modern will always remain modern." That became the prime aesthetic of the band. Style 32 practiced three times a week for years. Songs were introduced by Patrick offering a melody and words. Monk and Francois dressed them up. Style 32 worked as a team, each contributing all they had while tracking the same vision. Songs were often discussed as soundtracks for films.

Style 32 had four drummers in chronological order: Bernie Borowski, Eric Zelsdorf, Chris Klym, and Bob Howard. Keyboards were supplied Dave Bartlett and Bing McCoy. After Francois left for England in 1986 Doug Corbin played bass.
